Injectable beauty treatments once conjured images of frozen foreheads and blown-up lips. Thankfully, those images are becoming a memory. We’ve entered an era where subtlety is becoming the “norm.” The goal is to make subtle, natural-looking tweaks. Drab skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, deep folds, etched lines are all words we have used to describe how our skin is looking. It’s about restoring the natural look you had 5 or 10 years ago and helping to maintain it. We have many patients in their early 20’s-30’s that come in for regular BOTOX treatments. You must be thinking, “Why? They are too young to have wrinkles.” Well, it’s really more for preventative measures. There are many factors that affect how much collagen we have: sun, stress, genetics, pollution, habits like drinking or smoking. They all play a role in why your skin is doing what it’s doing. Botox is considered a “smoother,” it keeps your muscles from tightening-causing the face to relax and wrinkles to soften. It is often used in the upper half of the face (around the eyes, forehead, glabella (area in between the eyes) and lasts about 3-6 months. Juvederm is considered a “filler,” the chemical compound diminishes lines by plumping wrinkles and folds. It is often used in the lower half of the face (smile lines, sloping cheeks, etc.) and lasts about 9-12 months.
